5-25-10 Exclusive Underwater Footage From the Gulf – Sam Champion and Phillipe Cousteau

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Good Morning America’s Sam Champion with Phillipe Cousteau, for an exclusive dive into the Gulf oil disaster.

Here’s some exclusive underwater footage of Good Morning America’s reporter, Sam Champion, diving beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico today with Phillipe Cousteau. Phillipe is Planet Green’s Chief Ocean correspondent and I’ve invited him to visit us on the show because of his unique perspective and legendary lineage.

Although some of us can’t be at the Gulf to see what’s actually happening – what it’s actually like – Sam and Phillipe’s descriptions will give you an excellent sense of what’s going on. Just remember that BP, Transocean, Halliburton and Obama’s administration have consistently provided inadequate information about the scale of this unprecedented disaster. The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 affords President Obama the legal authority to direct the recovery efforts for this operation. And the oil “dispersant,” a toxic emulsifier known by the name Corexit, is banned from use in BP’s home country of the United Kingdom.

Many scientists believe the oil spill rates are releasing an Exxon Valdez quantity every four days. Thanks to SkyTruth’s John Amos for pointing out this clip.
